Event History

It's been 28 Years now that Buildexpo has been instrumental in promoting and connecting the construction industry in East Africa. In a region which is substantially dependent on imports, sourcing of foreign products, equipment and machinery is essential.

Over these years, Buildexpo has introduced thousands of global manufacturers to the market that seeks not only the products, but also the technology and collaborations to raise the economy through local productivity and employment. From the perspectives of foreign suppliers, the event has been the ideal platform to penetrate a market that is being recognized as one of the most promising ones in the world.

The journey of the event began in 1997 with 32 exhibitors. Since 2012, the event has been full house every year occupying the entire exhibiting space at the venue - Kenyatta International Conference Centre. In 2017, the event spanned over 10,000 sq.m. of gross display area. More than 400 exhibitors from 38 countries embellished the show that displayed over 10,000 products from a pin to plane in building and construction. Other prominent highlights were national pavilions from China, Germany, India, Turkey, Malaysia, Egypt and the U.A.E. The event is supported by the Kenya Costruction Authority,The Ministry OfIndustrialization, TANTRADE Tanzania & Abdas. APEX Steel, Athi River Steel & Elite tools hav been regular sponsors for the past 4 to 5 years.

This is just the right time to enter these markets for foreign suppliers to earn the big portion. Though the competition will increase with time, we envisage high prospects and profits for at least another 10 to 15 years, he added ".

Kenya is on its way to be the next Dubai and so isTanzania catering to several landlocked African nations in Eastern & Central Africa. While both are witnessing a boom in construction, they are a major source of supply to neighbours like Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi, Somalia & Mozambique etc. Global manfacturers, therefore target a combined market of almost 400 million consumers.
