Leaders From Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Turkana Countries Agree to Priotise Key Water Projects.

Leaders From Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Turkana Countries Have Decided to Prioritise Major Water Projects to Relieve the Region's Water Crisis. The Leaders Met at the Lake Bogoria Spa Resort in Baringo County and Pledged That They Would Work Together on the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) Initiatives. The Chemususu Dam, the Weiwei Irrigation Scheme, Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) Projects, and the Turkwel Dam Constitute Some of the Projects.the Leaders Also Requested That the Itare Dam in Nakuru County, Which Was Supposed to Deliver Water to Nakuru, Baringo, and Sections of Kericho Counties, Be Completed.

 

Water Scarcity is a Major Challenge in Many Parts of Kenya, Especially in the Arid and Semi-arid Regions. The Lack of Adequate and Reliable Water Supply Affects the Livelihoods, Health, and Education of Millions of People. About 28 Million Kenyans Do Not Have Access to Adequate Water for Drinking, and 41 Million Do Not Have Access to Adequate Sanitation. Growing Water Demand and Scarcity Have Become Major Obstacles in Kenya. Climate Change, Population Growth, Urbanization, Water Pollution, and Poor Management of Water Resources Have Aggravated the Issue of the Water Crisis, Which Affects Economic Activities, Food Security, Education, and Health.
