Egypt Says It Will Go on Buying Kenyan Tea

Posted on :Monday , 19th January 2015

Egypt will continue to be the leading importer in Africa of Kenyan tea, its trade Minister told a Kenya-Egypt business forum held in Nairobi on Tuesday."Egypt is looking forward to become the biggest importer of Kenyan tea," said Abdi Noor at the forum attended by Kenya's Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed.

The forum was aimed at strengthening trade relations between the two countries. The two called for diversification of trade between the two countries and witnessed the formation of a business council that draws 10 representatives from each country to explore trade opportunities.

"Our trade volumes have risen from shillings 253 million to shillings 500 million, however it is still a drop in the ocean as we can do better than that," said Mohammed. The forum urged Kenyan and Egyptian investors to invest in different businesses in either country.
