Tanzania: WWF-Tanzania Sponsors Solar Power for Institutions

SOLAR panels project sponsored by a non-governmental organisation known as World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Tanzania) has benefited various institutions including Msaranga Health Centre in Moshi Municipality.

 
The project is among the three projects sponsored by the same NGO. Such projects include renovation and construction of new standardised kitchens in 18 secondary and primary schools, planting of 2,000 trees in Rau river area and electrification in Msaranga through solar power and a Health Center in which the NGO pumped in some 14m/-.
 
WWF Project Co-ordinator, Dr Teresia Olemako said projects were funded since 2014 with the aim of conserving the environment and addressing climate change in the municipality was among the three municipalities in the country sponsored by the organization.
 
Dr Olemako said; "The objective of WWF-Tanzania who is among big stakeholders in environmental issues, is in a position to build the capacity of municipalities in promoting environment with anti-climate change moves, to reduce greenhouse gases, contributing to the availability of rain through tree planting, reduce use fire wood and cut down deforestation which also affects water catchment areas.
 
She said Moshi council is among the three Councils in the country that implements an Earth Hour City Challenge project whereby our organization sponsors two cities of Dar es Salaam and Arusha cities.
