Cooling Plant Set up in Ol Kalou town

The completion of a Sh500 million potato cooling machine in Ol Kalou town was celebrated by hundreds of farmers. When President William Ruto officially launched the facility two weeks ago, he said: "If there had been a cooling facility by then, I would have put my potatoes there and waited for the prices to rise. We are relieved that our suffering is over.”

The activation of the factory was excellent news for growers, according to Wilfred Kimaru, chairman of the Nyandarua Potato Growers Association. "Since there was nowhere to keep the fruit when there was no market, we have suffered for decades. This won't be the case anymore," he said.

Kimaru pointed out that farmers had signed up their organisations and would be sending their goods after they had been harvested. "There isn't a lot of product right now because we just went through a dry season. When harvest time arrives, we will be prepared to deliver our produce to the cooling facility while we search for better markets. We are confident that we won't experience losses, as has been the case," stated Kimaru.
