Kenya: Social Enterprise Solar Firm to Setup Manufacturing Plant in Kenya

Kenya — Social Enterprise firm GeNNex is set to build its manufacturing plant in Kenya as it eyes the rapidly expanding solar energy sector.

 
The firm produces solar products that charge phone devices and provide power to homes, using off-grid systems.

World's First Malaria Vaccine to be Tested in Africa

Programs beginning next year in Ghana, Malawi and Kenya will test the vaccine's effectiveness in children. The trial was announced ahead of World Malaria Day (25.04.2017).

 
A pilot program testing the first ever malaria vaccine will begin in Africa in 2018, the World Health Organization has said. Children and babies in high-risk areas in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi will receive the RTS,S vaccine, which is also known as Mosquirix.

Kenya: EADP, German Lender Agree $13 Million Credit Deal to Boost Agriculture Sector

Hurdles of Kenyan farmers, organisations as well as small and medium sized enterprises in the agriculture value chain in accessing credit are set to ease with the signing of a €13 million ($13.8 million) financing agreement between German lender KfW and the East African Development Bank .

Tanzania: Over Half of Rural Households Now Powered by Solar

Dar es Salaam — Solar power revolution is happening in Tanzania with a new study indicating that more than half (65 per cent) of rural households that have access to electricity use solar.

 
The Energy Access Situation Report 2016 released earlier this week by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Rural Energy Agency shows that grid electricity is the second largest source of power in rural areas with 34.5 per cent of households connected.

Tanzania: Report States that 33 Percent Tanzanians Have Electricity Access

Dar es Salaam — A total of 3,753, 615 households in Mainland Tanzania are electrified with any form of electricity out of 11,454,818 households, a new study indicates.

 
This is equivalent to 32.8 per cent of all households of Mainland Tanzania and is an increase from 18 per cent of all households connected to electricity in 2011/12.

Kenya: American Roasters to Increase Coffee Imports by 25 Percent

American roasters are expected to raise coffee purchases from Kenya by a quarter to Sh3.5 billion annually after the country showcased its produce in the ongoing symposium in Seattle, US.
