Rwanda: Energy Utility Looks to Enhance Efficiency, Revenue Collection

The Energy Utility Corporation Limited (EUCL) has unveiled a new drive that seeks to increase access to electricity as well as boost efficiency and improve revenue collection.

Ethiopia: Mega Renewable Energy Projects to be Launched in 2017 - Ministry

The country is aggressively working to utilize its renewable energy.

 
The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity recently announced it would launch mega renewable energy projects generating over 5,000 MW in 2017.

Ethiopia: Parliament Approves Loan Deals With China for Infrastructure Projects

Addis Ababa — Ethiopia's parliament on Tuesday approved three loan agreements worth over 380 million U.S. dollars made with the Chinese government and the Export-Import Bank of China to finance major infrastructure constructions in Ethiopia.

Rwanda: Major Road Rehabilitation to Boost Regional Trade

A FEASIBILITY study for the rehabilitation of the 79-kilometre road network stretching from Ngororero, Nyabihu and Musanze town to the Rwanda-Uganda border at Cyanika is complete and the works will begin soon.

 
The rehabilitation project will require at least $85 million (about Rwf70 billion) to complete, according to the feasibility study done by Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA).

Rwanda: New Multi Million Dollar Market Almost Ready

Musanze District investors have proved that union is strength as final touches are being put on the modern market constructed by a local association.

 
The construction of the market by Gorilla Investment Company (GOICO) started two years ago and owners say that by February next year, the market will have been opened.
 
It is constructed in town on the same old plot which hosted decades-old market.

Tanzania: County Sets Two-Week Deadline for Toilet Construction

Ruangwa — Lindi Regional Commissioner Godfrey Zambi has issued a two-week ultimatum to Ruangwa District's residents to construct toilets as part of efforts to check water-borne diseases, especially cholera.

 
Mr Zambi ordered the District Commissioner, Mr Joseph Mkirikiti, to embark on a house-house inspection by January 15, next year and impose a 50,000/- fine to those failing to comply with the directive.

Ethiopians in China Purchase GERD Bonds Worth $14000

Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin residing in Beijing, China, have pledged to purchase bonds worth 14,000 USD to finance the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

 
In a press release sent to The Ethiopian Herald, Office of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the pledge was made at an event organized to mark the 11th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day on the premises of Ethiopian Embassy.Read more »

Coco-Cola to acquire stake in African beverages

 The Coca-Cola Company has agreed to acquire Anheuser-Busch InBev’s 54.5% equity stake in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa for US$3.15 billion. CCBA includes the countries of South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ghana, Mayotte and Comoros.

Kenya: Country to Get New Dam Through Public-Private Partnership

Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Wednesday said the government will build a Sh60 billion dam in Galana-Kulalu through a public-private partnership.

 
The two-billion-cubic-metre dam would supply irrigation water for 500,000 acres to be launched in March 2017.

Rwanda: Electrical Installations in Prisons Need to be Reviewed - Minister

The Minister for Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs, Seraphine Mukantabana, has asked prisons officials to review their electrical installations as a precaution against fire incidents.

Tanzania: New Prices for Natural Gas to be Set

Tanzania will next week start setting indicative prices for natural gas to guide potential investors.

 
Currently the prices of natural gas are negotiated between the buyer and the government-owned Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), which is the seller.
 
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) is expected to announce the first list of the prices for 2017 by December 30.
