Ethiopia: Repi Waste-to-Energy Project Nearing Completion

The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity said that the Repi waste-to-energy project is 87 per cent complete.

The UK-based Cambridge Industries and China National Electric Engineering Corporation are undertaking the over 95 million USD project. The plant, which lies on 53,123 hectares of land is designed to generate 50MW.

Strandline Resources Ltd seeks new mineral sands from drilling in Tanzania

Strandline Resources Ltd’s (ASX:STA) is expanding exploration and development programs at the company’s Tanzania-based mineral sands projects.

The zircon-rich Fungoni deposit in Tanzania has an indicated resource of 11 million tonnes at 3.1% Total Heavy Minerals (THM) with a valuable assemblage of 22% zircon, 4% rutile and 44% ilmenite.

Tanzania: Experts Hail Oil, Gas Extraction Strategies

Kenya signs nuclear power deal with South Korea

Kenya’s nuclear energy bid received a major boost after signing an agreement with the Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO).

The company and the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB) signed an MoU to cooperate on construction of nuclear projects and sharing expertise. Africa: Donors Set Aside U.S.$24 Billion for African Health

Nairobi — The World Bank and the Global Fund will invest $24 billion in Africa over the next three to five years to accelerate universal health coverage across the continent.

"A critical part of this commitment is to accelerate progress on universal health coverage - ensuring that everyone, everywhere has the opportunity to live a healthy and productive life," Jim Yong Kim, the President of the World Bank said last week.

Tea farmers earnings up 32pc to Sh84bn

Tea farmers are set for improved earnings after sales for the year 2015/2016 jumped 32 per cent on higher production and a stable currency.

The farmers' marketing agency, Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), has announced Sh84 billion in revenue this year, up from Sh63.5 billion last year.

Over 130 surgeries performed at the new Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital

Over 130 people have undergone successful eye surgeries at the new Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital in Murang’a county only three months after it was opened.
