East Africa: Inter-Country Oil Transportation pipeline construction deal worth U.S.$2b signed

 Ethiopia and Djibouti pipeline construction deal worth U.S.$2b has been signed a move that is expected to boost oil transportation between the two countries.

 
The contractors assigned for the mega project; Black Rhino Group and Mining Oil & Gas Services (MOGS) are supposed to raise at least US$ 1bn to finance the construction.

East Africa: Assembled Motor Vehicles Now Welcome in Dar, Tax Free

Regional auto assembly plants can now fully enter the Tanzanian market after the lapse of an East African Community October deadline for Dar to lift a 30 per cent excise duty on locally assembled vehicles.

Angola: Bengo - Kissomeira Cooperative Harvests Over 50,000 Tons of Maize

Caxito — More than 50,000 tons of maize were harvested by the Kissomeira Cooperative in the municipality of Dande, northern Bengo province, during the 2014/2015 agricultural season.

 
The information was released Thursday in Caxito, the capital of Bengo province, by the head of the local Department of the National Institute of Cereals, Laurindo José.

Tunisia World's Top Olive Oil Exporter

Tunis — Tunisia was the world's top olive oil exporter in the 2014/2015 campaign, overtaking Spain.

 
Tunisian olive oil exports reached 299,300 tonnes this season, generating record revenues of 1,902 million Tunisian dinars (MTD), according to recent statistics (September 2015) of the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Energy.

Borno Spends N15 Billion On Agriculture - Commissioner

The Borno State government on Friday said it had invested over N15 billion in agriculture as part of efforts to revolutionise the sector in the state.

 
The commissioner for agriculture in the state, Muhammad Dili, disclosed this in an interview in Maiduguri.
 
Mr. Dili said the state governor, Kashim Shettima, had laid a foundation for smooth take off of all relevant state agricultural programmes.

Salima Sugar Factory Ready

Construction of the Salima Sugar Factory will be completed at the end of this month, but there is no sugarcane to process as work in the cane growing area was halted some time ago due to what the Minister of Agriculture Dr Allan Chiyembekeza described as mismanagement of funds.

Rwanda: RAB Seeks Ways to Increase Fish Production

Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) has begun research aimed at finding ways to improve fish species found in the country.

Tanzania Inaugurates China Funded Gas Pipeline

Tanzania on Saturday officially inaugurated a 535-kilometer China funded gas pipeline, reported Xinhua.

The pipeline built with a $1.33-billion concessional loan from the Export-Import Bank of China transports natural gas from Tanzania's southern region of Mtwara to Dar es Salaam. Construction started in June 2013 and was undertaken by China Petroleum Technology and Development Corporation (CPTDC), a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Company (CNPC).

Kenya’s Proposed Mining Policy Seeks To Lure Investments

Kenya is revising the country’s mining policy to lure more investment.

According to estimates, Kenya’s mining sector has the potential to contribute about 6.4 per cent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Construction of the Mass Rapid Transit System in Kenya gets green light

Construction of the Mass Rapid Transit System in Kenya  which will cost US$ 4m is set to be launched in the capital Nairobi and will be fully funded by the National Treasury.

The acting Director-general of public debt management at the Treasury, Jackson Kinyanjui confirmed the reports and said that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure accepted the proposal for the allocation of US$4m for the construction of the Mass Rapid Transit System.

Turnkey hydropower plant to be constructed in Africa

 The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) has approved a US$965,000 grant to support the preparation of a turnkey hydropower plant in Saltinho, Guinea Bissau hydropower 

The plant is expected to have a capacity of 20MW, said AfDB. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the African Development Bank (AfDB)’s Energy Week in September.
