The Athi-Mavindini Water Project Will Help 6,500 Inhabitants

After Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. commissioned the Athi-Mavindini Water Project in Kathozweni Sub-county, more than 6,500 residents of Mavindini Ward would have better access to dependable and safe water.

Mutula revealed that the water would be connected to two markets and three educational institutions during the project's commissioning.

The project also includes more than 11 kilometers of rising main, 7.5 kilometers of distribution lines, a 100-cubic-meter concrete intake sump, and a solar-powered pumping system.

Additionally, the project will include a 150-cubic-meter masonry storage tank at Ilumani, a water treatment plant and solar-powered pumping system at Miangeni, security facilities, sanitary facilities, CCTV cameras, and security lighting.

In order to distribute between 18 and 20 cubic meters of water per hour from the Athi River, the County Government of Makueni will improve the Athi water delivery infrastructure in collaboration with Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLOCA).

In addition to lowering inhabitants' exposure to crocodile attacks at the Athi River, the investment has significantly increased water security in Athi-Mavindini and decreased residents' reliance on untreated river water.

Mutula also inspected Muusini Dispensary and commissioned an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classroom at Methouvini Primary during the excursion.
