The Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation has taken its first overseas project as it finalized an agreement to construct an irrigation infrastructure development project in Rwanda.

The Corporation organised a farewell ceremony for supervisors of the 3.6 billion Rwandan franc project, which is expected to have national as well as international impact.

Hailemeskel Tefera, CEO, stated that this counts as a first step in the government's five-year plan to shore up domestic capacity in handling huge construction projects.

On the other side, Agonafir Zewde, Head of the Rwandan Project, said, "The overseas project is vital in getting essential experience to carry out similar projects at continental level."

The Corporation was formed by a merger between the former Ethiopian Road Construction Corporation and the Ethiopian Water Works Enterprise.
