  • Kenya sets Ksh 3B for compiling geological map

     The Ministry of Mining has received Ksh 3 billion from the government to compile a new geological map detailing available pockets of minerals and their quantities.

     
    Only 4 per cent of Kenya’s minerals have been located and mined, according to official estimates from the ministry, prompting the need for a clear study to inform prospective investments.

  • Ethiopia: East Africa Metals Requests Gold Mining License

     East African Metals, a Canadian mine development company with an interest in exploration projects, has requested a license from the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum & Natural Gas, to start the large scale extraction of gold and silver in Ethiopia.

     
    The company has submitted its application to produce the minerals, in Tigray regional state, Terakimti locality.
  • Kenya: Team Formed to Regulate Sand Harvesting

    Makueni County government officials on Friday met with representatives of sand harvesters to iron out conservation issues and regulated the trade following weeks of antagonism.
     
    The meeting took place at a hotel in Wote town bring together county officials, members of a local conservation agency and representatives of sand harvesters.
