  • Tanzania: ministry issues power system master plan

     The Tanzanian energy ministry has issued its Power System Master Plan (PSMP 2016–2040), mapping out how much will be required in investments to balance the sector.

     
    On Monday, the ministry released its power roadmap, which stated that 70% of capital spending would be financed by debt and the rest by the government's own resources, the Standard reported.

  • Tanzania to open renewable energy technology training centre

     The director of the Innovative Technology and Energy Centre (ITEC), Dr Herb Rhee, has announced plans to open a training centre for renewable energy technology in Arusha, Tanzania.

     
    According to local media, Tanzania Standard, Dr Rhee said the renewable energy technology centre will open doors in August this year, and will have the capacity to train 1,000 stude. . .

  • Tanzania lays out big investments in power generation

     A spate of recent agreements is expected to raise access to electricity to 75% of the population by 2035 as part of the government’s Power System Master Plan. According to official estimates, about 40% of the country’s 47m people had access to electricity in 2016.

  • Solar power dominates rural Tanzania, says report

     The report, released earlier this week by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Rural Energy Agency shows that grid electricity is the second largest source of power in rural areas with 34.5% of households connected, while solar is leading by nearly 65%.
