Construction begins on largest gas power plant in sub-Saharan Africa

Ghana has begun the construction of what it says will be the largest gas-fired power plant in sub-Saharan Africa to take advantage of the country’s rich reserves of natural gas.

Pretoria — KwaDukuza Municipality and Group Five have reached a power deal that will see construction activities resume at Avon Peaking power plant outside Shakaskraal, in KwaZulu-Natal's north coast.

Chinese firm Avic International has been awarded a contract to construct 2, 350 houses in Zambia for police officers at the cost of US $320m.
President Edgar Lungu indicated optimism for the project during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the first 48 houses in Zambia capital Lusaka. This is expected to be completed end of March 2016.
